China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is touching the whole Eurasian landmass as well as Eastern Africa and South Asia. Several “belts” and “roads” – in concrete mainly infrastructure pro- jects – for international trade and investment have been financed by China during the last years. The nations along the traditional “belt“ plus the newly invented maritime “road” want and need to participate in the projects. But, the transport routes between Asia and Europe are vulnerable and disrupted, now mainly by the Russian war on Ukraine and the sanctions thereafter. However, all partners, in Asia and Europe, are dependent on good possibilities to transport raw materials, goods and products quickly, efficiently and safely to and from east to west.
International Silk Road Conference will bring scholars from different Countries to Tbilisi to discuss implications of the BRI and the disruption of the former routes via Russia and Ukraine for the South Caucasus as well as neighboring regions.
